Body Mapping Influences...

I have seen Vanessa Mulvey give two body mapping classes, one at the New York Flute Convention, and one at the Frost School. There is no question that everyone is thrilled to learn what she has to offer.  Vanessa explains things in a very clear and entertaining way, and quickly makes you want to do whatever she suggests. Students are always thrilled with the results, as am I."

- Trudy Kane, Former Principal Flute Metropolitan Opera Orchestra

"Vanessa's contribution to British Isles Music Festival was an outstanding success. Students and professors alike found her work “life changing, illuminating and revolutionary”.

- Susan Milan, Director British Isles Music Festival

After finding a good core  balance I am able to practice longer and my sound became more rich and open. The most important ideas I learned in this class were combining the thought processes of critical thinking and self awareness. By knowing my own body  anatomically, I could test, understand, and hear the differences in different positions  etc. My future as an  opera singer and my health as a musician changed for the  best thanks to this class.

"Last year, I found myself suffering from a huge amount of performance anxiety in auditions, to the point where I doubted if I would ever be able to sound anything like myself in pressure situations. What I realized from examining my body maps in this class is that, for me, much of my nervousness was actually a psychological reaction to being physically off-balance."

"It’s fascinating how what seem like small adjustments pay large dividends in my playing."
- Matt Gaunitz, Trumpet
"While singing my first song I focused on using my inclusive awareness. I was working on a song that’s been difficult for me so I tried to just focus on my body. When I finished my coach said that I had so much more resonance than she’s ever heard me have and that my line was the best she’s ever heard from me."

Tools for Practice, Performance & Comfort

"This class completely revamped the way I practice my craft and solve the problems and challenges of playing."

"Shoulder blade pain is not the same as back pain! Awareness of the shoulder blade and its movement made me aware of why I’ve been having pain for YEARS!…Everything I do with my arms is now easier because I know that the movement is a sum of multiple joints."
